Container exports from Japan to China surged 14.1% to 850,388 tons in September, accomplishing a year-on-year improvement for three months in a row, according to statistics released by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). Contributing factors were growth in paper, plastic and machinery. Swelling 12.5% to ¥672.5 billion, they increased for the third consecutive month in terms of value as well.

On the other hand, the JMC statistics, compiled with trade data provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), said that imports from China to Japan fell 10.4% to 1,579,799 tons in September, incurring a year-on-year contraction for five months running. On a value scale, they shrank 3.9% to ¥1.06 trillion, suffering a year-on-year decline for three straight months.
