The Port of Yokohama processed 17.8 million tons of oceangoing containerized shipments in the first half (January-June), which plunged 11.2% from a year earlier, according to the city of Yokohama’s Port and Harbor Bureau. Exports fell 16.4% to 6.68 million tons, and imports, a milder 7.7% to 11.12 million tons. In terms of number, they diminished 12.1% to 1.2 million TEUs, of which 630,000 TEUs were exported, down 11.9%, and 570,000 TEUs were imported, down 12.3%.

The total volume of international shipments moved to and from Yokohama during the six-month period in question plummeted 15.8% to 33.53 million tons. Outgoing freight sank 21.2% to 11.56 million tons, and incoming cargo, 12.6% to 21.97 million tons. As for major export commodities, completed automobiles amounted to 3.57 million tons, down 33.7%, and auto parts and components, 1.39 million tons, down 32.8%. In respect to imports, crude oil decreased 29% to 4.25 million tons, and LNG, 5.6% to 3.51 million tons.
