Taiwan’s Big Four ports exported and imported a total of 226,342 TEUs of containerized shipments to and from China in August, which surged 11.54% from the corresponding month of 2019’s 202,919 TEUs, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). A year-on-year improvement was achieved for four consecutive months since May, when the COVID-19 outbreak had already subsided.

By port, three ports—other than Kaohsiung—enjoyed growth from a year earlier. Specifically, Keelung was responsible for 406,790 TEUs, up 5.12%; Taichung, 393,495 TEUs, up 7.05%; and Taipei, 90,068 TEUs, up 18.12%. In contrast, Kaohsiung only processed 777,071 TEUs, down 3.01%.
