Demand for exporting containerized shipments from China slowed down in the face of National Day holiday. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) rose only by 0.9% to 1421.75 in the week ended on September 25, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).?
Container spot rates for Europe-bound shipments fell slightly by 0.3% to $1,079 per TEU while those for Mediterranean-bound containers inched up by 0.4% to $1,193 per TEU.
On the trans-Pacific trade, freight rates for shipments destined to the U.S. West Coast edged down by 0.3% or $11 to $3,856 per FEU. Similarly, rates from Shanghai to the East Coast set back slightly by 0.2% or $9 to $4,625 per FEU.
For Middle East Gulf-bound containers, rates inched up by 0.2% to $1,081 per TEU; and for Australia- and New Zealand-bound containers, up 12.6% to $1,529 per TEU. Those for shipments to South America achieved 8.1% gain to $3,942 per TEU.?
Rates for containerized shipments to Japan remained unchanged again at $232 per TEU to Kansai and $238 per TEU to Kanto.
