Taiwan’s four major ports handled a total of 226,054 TEUs of cross-strait containers in July, up 7.4% from a year earlier, the state’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) unveiled recently. By port, Kaohsiung was responsible for 102,545 TEUs, up 4.5%; Keelung, 57,505 TEUs, up 10.5%; Taichung, 52,630 TEUs, up 4.7%; and Taipei, 13,373 TEUs, up 33.9%. Double-digit increases were registered at Keelung and Taipei.

In the first seven months (January-July), a total of 1,441,081 TEUs were moved to and from Taiwan, up 0.8% year on year from 1,429,050 TEUs. Individually, 676,532 TEUs were carried to and from Kaohsiung, down 3.9%; 346,120 TEUs to and from Keelung, up 2%; 341,575 TEUs to and from Taichung, up 6.7%; and 76,855 TEUs to and from Taipei, up 17%. Year-on-year improvements were accomplished at Keelung, Taichung and Taipei.
