The Port of Tokyo processed a total of 290,931 TEUs of loaded foreign-trade containers in April, up 2.5%, accomplishing the first year-on-year improvement in three months, or since January, said the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor. Although exports shrank 9.4% to 77,893 TEUs, imports swelled 7.7% to 213,038 TEUs. As for empty containers, 115,504 TEUs were exported and imported in total, up 17.1%.

In the first four months (January-April), full containers carried to and from Tokyo totaled 1,043,367 TEUs, down 3.4%. Exports accounted for 297,911 TEUs, down 0.7%, and imports, 745,456 TEUs, down 4.4%. Empties amounted to 352,996 TEUs in total, down 8.8%.
