The Port of Shimizu handled 33,810 TEUs of oceangoing containers in June, down 15.4% year on year, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the Shizuoka Prefectural Government’s Shimizu Port Authority.

As for loaded containers, which incurred double-digit decreases across the board, 11,047 TEUs were exported, down 28.6%, and 16,660 TEUs were imported, down 11.6%, for a total of 27,707 TEUs, down 19.2%. Meanwhile, empty containers (exports and imports) accounted for 6,103 TEUs, up 8.2%.

In the first half (January-June), Shimizu processed 212,244 TEUs of foreign-trade containers, down 9.8%, while domestic containers totaled 37,007 TEUs, down 12.9%. Regarding full containers, 76,965 TEUs were exported, down 14.9%, and 102,308 TEUs were imported, down 9.5%, for a total of 179,273 TEUs, down 11.9%. Empties amounted to 32,971 TEUs, up 3.8%.
