On the trade route between South Korea and China, 288,300 TEUs were moved in May, swelling 5.2% year on year from 263,900 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). In 2020, container movement on the trade fell 10% in January and 7% in February under the influence of the Chinese New Year and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it came back to increase 1% in March and continued to achieve year-on-year growth in the following two months.

In May, exports from South Korea to China surged 10.2% from a year earlier to 106,800 TEUs, exceeding the 100,000-TEU line for the first time since December 2019. However, imports from China to South Korea only improved a minute 0.8% to 157,000 TEU.
