The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has reported March container volumes were down 4.1 percent at 560,830 TEUs, compared to 585,098 TEUs in March 2019. Loaded imports fell 4.1% from a year earlier to 271,000 TEUs, while loaded exports rose 5.2% on year to 137,000 TEUs. Empty containers for import surged 41.1% to 2,000 TEUs while empties for export decreased 11.8% to 151,000 TEUs.?

In the first three months, container traffic declined 2.0% to 1.76 million TEUs compared to 1.79 million TEUs in the same period of 2019. Loaded imports totaled 895,000 TEUs, down 1.2% year on year while loaded exports climbed 3.9% to 369,000 TEUs. Empty containers for import amounted to 5,000 TEUs, up 56.4% and those for export fell 7.6% to 488,000 TEUs.
