Container throughput at Hong Kong Port totaled 5.59 million TEUs in the first four months of the year, a decline of 6.7% from the same period last year, according to the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board.
The port's largest terminal Kwai Tsing Container Terminal handled 4.44 million TEUs, down 5.3% from a year earlier, while other terminals processed 1.16 million TEUs, losing 11.7% year on year.
In the month of April, box throughput fell 7.3% year on year to 1.46 million TEUs, marking the 27th consecutive month of decline.
Of the total, throughput at Kwai Tsing Container Terminal reached 1.154 million TEUs, down 5.1% from a year earlier while other terminals handled 305,000 TEUs, down 14.9% compared to April 2019.
