Direct container traffic between Taiwan and China totaled 2,492,372 TEUs in 2019, down 2.86% compared to 2,565,638 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

Kaohsiung and Keelung, the two of the four major ports in Taiwan, suffered negative growth, handling 1,216,145 TEUs, down 8.54%, and 593,765 TEUs, down 0.05%, respectively. On the other hand, throughput improved at Taichung and Taipei, which went up 5.68% to 562,823 TEUs, and 9.26% to 119,639TEUs.
