Container trade between South Korea and China grew 5.1% from the previous year to 3,176,719 TEUs in 2019, despite concern over a decline in freight movement due to the trade friction between the U.S. and China, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). Local containers increased 3.5% to 2,916,264 TEUs, while feeder containers were much more massive, surging 26.4% to 260,455 TEUs.

Shipments from South Korea to China swelled 3.3% to 1,196,383 TEUs. Local and feeder cargo was both robust, inflating 3.25% to 1,108,437 TEUs and 3.83% to 80,246 TEUs, respectively. Meanwhile, those from China to South Korea improved 6.29% to 1,980,036 TEUs. Local containers accounted for 1,807,827 TEUs, up 3.69%, while the remaining 172,209 TEUs were feeder containers, which strengthened a notable 43.32%.
