A total of 233,400 TEUs of containers were traded between South Korea and Southeast Asia in September, shrinking 5% year from a year earlier and incurring a year-on-year contraction for three months in a row, according to statistics compiled by an association of liner shipping service providers catering to the South Korea-Southeast Asia trade. South Korea exported 115,600 TEUs, down 5.3%, and imported 117,800 TEUs, down 4.7%.

In the first nine months, 2.161 million TEUs were transported on the route, down 1.1%. South Korea exported 1.508 million TEUs, down 0.8%, and imported 1.102 million TEUs, down 1.5%.

Looking at exports from South Korea by destination, those to Vietnam hiked 7.3% to 357,400 TEUs, while those to Thailand climbed 2.9% to 110,400 TEUs. In contrast, shipments to others contracted across the board. As for imports, increases were registered for those from Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore.
