Outbound containerized shipments from Japan to China plunged 24.4% to 777,169 tons in July, suffering a year-on-year shrinkage for five months in a row to hit a record low for the month in question, according to a report released by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). They plummeted in terms of value as well, sinking 12.9% to \659 billion and registered a year-on-year decrease for four months running.

The JMC report, compiled from trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), indicated that imports from China to Japan, in contrast, made the first upward turn in three months, surging 10.5% to 1,971,331 million tons. They turned upward for the first time in three months on a value bases, too, growing 4.8% to \1.179 trillion.
