Combined container throughput at Taiwan’s four major ports nearly unchanged from a year earlier in August, processing a total of 1,261,365 TEUs, down 0.97% year on year from 1,273,740 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the state’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). In the first eight months, 10,155,762 TEUs were moved to and from the four ports, down 0.05% from 10,160,522 TEUs.

Looking at January-August container lifting at the four leading ports individually, Taichung was the only one to mark a year-on-year improvement, while containers to and from the other three all shrank from a year earlier. More specifically, Kaohsiung was responsible for 6,944,399 TEUs, down 0.06%. Containers to and from Taichung hiked 3.03% to 1,178,450 TEUs. Taipei handled 1,086,722 TEUs, down 8%. Keelung processed 946,115 TEUs, down 2.41%.
