Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) recently announced that 202,919 TEUs of containers were traded to and from China in August, going down 7.51% from a year earlier. In the first eight months, 1,631,969 TEUs were moved between the economies, down 2.08% year on year from 1,666,719 TEUs.

Looking at January-August container throughput at major ports in Taiwan individually, Kaohsiung handled 801,179 TEUs, down 7.4%. Keelung was responsible for 386,974 TEUs, down 0.27%. Containers to and from Taichung, in contrast, grew 7% to 367,566 TEUs, while those to and from Taipei climbed a more notable 9.03% to 76,250 TEUs. In terms of year-on-year growth, as these figures show, Taipei led the other ports, followed by Taichung.
