Major international trade ports in Taiwan handled 1,057,770 TEUs of containers in total in February, according to statistics compiled by the state's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). Due partly to sluggish container movement during the Lunar New Year holidays, throughput was down 2.1% year on year from 1,080,474 TEUs. In the first two months, 2,387,167 TEUs were moved to and from the ports, down 0.73% from 2,404,757 TEUs.

Looking at container lifting at Big Four ports, Kaohsiung was responsible for 1,649,593 TEUs, down 0.08%. Taipei processed 267,579 TEUs, down 2.48%, while 259,172 TEUs were carried to and from Taichung, up 2.59%. At Keelung, containers decreased 7.08% to 210,822 TEUs. As indicated by these figures, three ports - other than Taipei - incurred negative growth.
