Containers traded directly between Taiwan and China increased 5.02% from a year earlier to 226,685 TEUs in January, according to statistics compiled by Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

Looking at container throughput at major ports in Taiwan, Keelung handled 54,976 TEUs, up 5.18%; Kaohsiung, 115,656 TEUs, up 0,86%; Taichung, 45,364 TEUs, up 7.23% and Taipei, 10,189 TEUs, up 62.2%. Taipei scored the greatest year-on-year container lifting improvement.
