Containers traded between South Korea and Japan increased 4% year on year to 161,577 TEUs in September, dramatically coming back from July, when they decreased 1.6%, and August, when they only improved 0.2%, according to statistics compiled by the Korea Nearsea Freight Conference (KNFC). In the third quarter (July-September), however, they just marked a minute increase of 0.8% from a year earlier, totaling 486,923 TEUs. They slowed down from growing 2% in the first quarter (January-March) and 1.3% in the second quarter (April-July).

Exports from South Korea fell 0.4% to 270,540 TEUs in the third quarter, but its imports swelled 2.3% to 216,383 TEUs. Transshipment (T/S) containers were sluggish, decreasing 3.2% to 179,997 TEUs, while feeder containers were even worth, suffering a double-digit contraction of 12.5% to total 70,785 TEUs.
