Container throughput at the port of Hong Kong dipped 2.5% from the same period last year to 1.634 million TEUs in October, according to the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board.

The Kwai Tsing terminals took the lion's share of the throughput handling 1.304 million TEUs, down 0.8% year on year and boxes handled by the mid-stream operators fell 8.8% to 330,000 TEUs.

For the first ten months, box volumes totaled 16.27 million TEUs, a drop of 5.4% compared to the same period in 2017. The Kwai Tsing terminals handled 12.835 million TEUs, down 5.6% from a year earlier and the remaining 346,2000 TEUs came from the non-Kwai Tsing terminals including mid-stream operations.
