China’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) recently compiled statistics showing that ports in the nation processed 164,123,300 TEUs of containers in total in January-August, which improved 4.9% from a year earlier and reached an all-time high for the eight-month term. Throughput increased both at coastal and inland river ports, growing 5% to 145,707,200 TEUs and 4.1% to 18,416,100 TEUs, respectively.

The top 10 coastal ports were as follows: Shanghai, which handled 27,530,500 TEUs, up 3.9%; Ningbo-Zhoushan, 17,748,400 TEUs, up 5.9%; Shenzhen, 16,771.600 TEUs, up 1.7%; Guangzhou, 14,286,300 TEUs, up 9.4%; Qingdao, 12,682,700 TEUs, up 4.1%; Tianjin, 10,649,200 TEUs, up 5.2%; Xiamen, 7,072,500 TEUs, up 5.7%; Dalian, 6,686,000 TEUs, up 0.3%; Yingkou, 4,211,200 TEUs, up 2.5% and Lianyungang, 3,159,700 TEUs, down 0.3%.
