Containerized shipments handled at the Port of Singapore amounted to 3,156,300 TEUs in August, rising 7.1% year on year and establishing a new record for the month in question, according to a tally made by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore. In January-August, 24,311,200 TEUs were moved to and from the port, enjoying a double-digit increase of 10.6%.

Meanwhile, the Port of Hong Kong processed 1,644,000 TEUs in August, which fell 4.3% and suffered a year-on-year decline for seven months in a row, according to the Hong Kong Marine and Port Board (HKMPB). The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals was responsible for 1,289,000 TEUs, down 3.9%, while the balance of 355,000 TEUs were processed elsewhere—e.g., in midstream operations and at the River Trade Terminal.

In the first eight months, containers fell 4.3% to 13,155,000 TEUs in total. Container lifting diminished across the board, waning 4.2% to 10,338,000 TEUs at Kwai Tsing and 4.9% to 2,817,000 TEUs at the others.
