A total of 14,011,116 TEUs of containers were traded worldwide in July, up 2.1% from a year earlier, enjoying a year-on-year increase for 10 months in a row, according to statistics compiled by Container Trades Statistics Ltd. (CTS) of the U.K. The global freight rate index (the average in 2008 =100 points) was 68 points, growing by one from 67 points in June but remaining lower by two than the 70 points marked in July 2017.

By major region, 7,962,715 TEUs were exported from the Far East, up 1.6%, while imports to the region improve 1% to 5,290,400 TEUs. Container movement to and from it both managed to swell from the corresponding month of the previous year, although the year-on-year rises were both mild. Imports to and exports from Europe both grew, with the former going up 1.7% to 2,768,908 TEUs and the latter, up 4% to 2,484,454 TEUs. Containers to North America climbed 4.2% to 2,505,856 TEUs, but those from the region fell 4% to 1,206,671 TEUs.
