Containerized shipments moved from Japan to China in May weighed 998,338 tons, growing 5.8% from a year earlier and enjoying the first year-on-year increase in nine months, according to figures calculated by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC) from trade statistics released by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). In terms of value, they surged 13.7% to 741.6 billion yen, increasing for two back-to-back months.

Imports from China to Japan amounted to 2,081,862 TEUs, inflating 6.7% and marked the first year-on-year improvement in three months. On a value scale, they rose 0.9% to 1.016 trillion yen.
