Trade ports in South Korea processed a total of 2.379 million TEUs of containers in April, growing 0.6% from the 2.366 million TEUs handled in the corresponding month of 2017, according to the nation's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF). Exports and imports decreased 2.4% to a total of 1.388 million TEUs due to declines in those to and from China, the U.S., Japan and other major trade partners. In contrast, transshipment (T/S) containers swelled a favorable 5% to 967,000 TEUs.

By port, Busan registered a minute increase of 0.4%, handling 1.785 million TEUs. Outbound and inbound international shipments fell 2.4% to 869,000 TEUs in total, as those to and from leading trade partners were sluggish. On the other hand, T/S cargo improved 3.2% to 915,000 TEUs.
