Ports in China processed 78,036,900 TEUs of containers in total in the first four months (January-April) of the year, which increased 5.5% from a year earlier, according to the nation's Ministry of Transport (MOT). Coastal ports were responsible for 60,540,800 TEUs, which went up 5.8%, while 8,496,100 TEUs were moved to and from inland river ports, up 2.9%.

As for coastal ports, Shanghai was the leading port, handling 13,259,700 TEUs, up 4.7%. Shanghai was followed by Ningbo-Zhoushan, where throughput rose 9.9% to 8,719,200 TEUs. Ranked third was Shenzhen, which processed 7,926,000 TEUs, up 4%. Coming in fourth place, Guangzhou posted an increase of 9.3%, handling 6,725,200 TEUs. To and from Qingdao, 6,139,100 TEUs were moved, up 1.5%, helping the port finish in fifth place. The sixth busiest container port was Tianjin, to and from which 4,991,900 TEUs were transported, up 6.3%. Placing seventh, Xiamen shipped and accepted 3,358,100 TEUs, up 10.9%. At Dalian, the eighth busiest port, 3,057,600 TEUs were loaded and unloaded, up 0.6%. To and from Yingkou, 2,069,700 TEUs were carried, up 1.1%. Coming at the bottom of the top 10, Lianyungang handled 1,571,000 TEUs, down 0.9%. The lineup remained unchanged.

Looking at inland river ports, meanwhile, Suzhou reached at the top of the list, which processed 1,912,600 TEUs, up 6.1%. Although container lifting went down 1% to 1,212,100 TEUs, Foshan managed to finish in second place. Nanjing came in third, handling 1,035,800 TEUs, up 1.7%. Wuhan bumped up to fourth by processing 458,700 TEUs, up 9.1%.
