American research firm Descartes DataMyne unveiled on March 9 that 1,236,994 TEUs of containers were moved in April from 10 countries and regions in Asia to the U.S., which increased 1.3% from a year earlier and enjoyed an year-on-year improvement for the 14th consecutive month. From January to April, an all-time high of 5,026,501 TEUs were handled on the eastbound trade route, which rose 7.5%.

According to statistics compiled with Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP), Descartes DataMyne added that containers from China went down 0.7 to 747,385 TEUs in April; from South Korea, up 10.7% to 131,343 TEUs; from Taiwan, down 12% to 69,200 TEUs, which declined year on year for 12 months in a row; from Hong Kong, down 10.2% to 56,959 TEUs; from Singapore, up 0.9% to 55,995 TEUs and from Japan, down 7.1% to 44,597 TEUs.
