Transport ministers from Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries - Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam - signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 15, 2018 on the implementation of the cross-border transport facilitation agreement (CBTA) which will allow the issuance of regional road transport permits and temporary admission documents for commercial vehicles from June 1, 2018.

The CBTA is an initiative by the six GMS countries under the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program to promote transport and trade facilitation for the benefits of greater economic connectivity. It is expected to eliminate border inspections within the GMS and reduce time and costs for crossing borders.
