The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 7.4 percent since last Friday's reading of 729.49 to a reading of 675.46 due to dull demand after the week-long Spring Festival holiday.
Spot rates for containerized exports from Shanghai to northern Europe and the Mediterranean in the week ending Friday both declined 6.3% to US$741 per TEU, and 5.1% to $665 respectively.
On the transpacific trades, meanwhile, spot rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast tumbled 11.1% since the previous week to $1,016 per FEU, while spot rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast fell 7.9%, to $2,009 per FEU.
