China’s Ministry of Transport recently announced the nation’s ports and harbors handled a total of 20,581,800 TEUs of containers in January, which increased a favorable 8.7% from the corresponding month of 2017. Growth in throughput was notable at both coastal and inland river ports, which was 8.6% to 18,425,800 TEUs and 9.5% to 2,155,900 TEUs, respectively. By major port, Lianyungang suffered a decrease of 6.5%, but others generally enjoyed year-on-year improvements. For example, containers to and from Shanghai, the busiest container port in China, went up 2.6%; to and from Ningbo-Zhoushan, ranked second, up 11.5% and Shenzhen, third, up 0.2%.
