Annual container throughput at the South Korean port of Busan is likely to exceed 20 million TEUs this year. The Busan Port Authority (BPA) held a celebration on Dec. 26 at Hanjin New Port Co.'s container terminal at Busan New Port.

Busan has grown to the world’s second busiest container transshipment hub port over the last 40 years, or since the Jasungdae Container Terminal went into operation as the port’s first berth for exclusively handling containerized shipments. The BPA will work even harder to accomplish both quantitative and qualitative improvements. The port authority will also strive to help the port make a leap into a global logistics hub that can create high added value. To this end, it will make efforts to respond quickly to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), which is accelerated by the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and other cutting-edge movements, as well as market conditions that can change rapidly due to automation in ports and harbors and other developments.
