The Nagoya Port Authority recently unveiled an estimate of 2017 container throughput at the Port of Nagoya. The total of domestic and international cargo is projected to rebound from a year earlier, when it suffered a year-on-year contraction, and increase 1.4% to 196 million tons. Coming very close to the 200-million-ton line, the total would enable the port to defend its title as the busiest cargo port in Japan for the 16th consecutive year. In breakdown, international shipments are expected to level off, falling a minute 0.4% to 128 million tons. Oceangoing containers are anticipated to grow 4.1% eventually, which would be greater than the improvement registered in 2016, to almost reach the 2.6-million-TEU mark at 2.594 million TEUs.
