Japan exported a total of 106,865 vehicles (i.e., passenger cars, cargo freighters and buses) in July, which surged 19.1% from a year earlier and enjoyed a year-on-year increase for the ninth consecutive month, according to a report unveiled recently by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA).

By country and region, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the leading destination in the month in question. However, the number of used vehicles exported to the economy declined year on year, going down 1.9% to 10,622. On the other hand, exports to the other 12 of the top 13 all improved from a year earlier. For example, those to New Zealand went up 4% to 10,262 units; to Myanmar, up 28.6% to 10,131 units; to Pakistan, up 127.2% to 8,137 units; to Kenya, up 31.2% to 6,636 units; to Chile, up 24.1% to 6,490 units; to South Africa, up 85.9% to 6,454; to Russia, up 27.6% to 5,787 units and to Tanzania, up 29.4% to 4,057 units.

In contrast, the iATA report, which had been compiled from statistical data on trade released by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), indicated that secondhand vehicles to Bangladesh, Georgia and Singapore all suffered notable year-on-year decreases, plunging 13.4% to 2,362 units, 43.3% to 1,865 units and 47.4% to 1,432 units, respectively.
