The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan on Aug. 31 agreed on a budgetary request for fiscal 2017 (April 2017-March 2018). It will develop facilities for cold chains and establish other leading-edge models, as part of the programs that it will advance to foster cooperation among agriculture, commerce and industry and enhance their exports to take advantage of the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP).

Specifically, Cool Japan Fund Inc. will make industrial investments in projects to popularize Japanese food and Japanese food culture in other economies through various efforts, such as maintaining and operating low-temperature logistics facilities in the Middle East, Vietnam and other countries and regions in Asia.

For these purposes, the ministry decided to request a budget of \35 billion (\3 billion to be covered in a supplementary budget).
