Japan exported 89,725 secondhand vehicles (passenger cars, freight carriers and buses) in July, which suffered a double-digit decrease of 14.7% from a year earlier and incurred a year-on-year decline for the fifth consecutive months, according to the International Auto Trade Association (iATA). Exports to Myanmar and Kenya continued to fall, while notable contractions were registered for those to Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago and Mozambique. The throughput marked a notable decrease from a month earlier as well, which went down 12.1%.

Looking at exports in July by destination, those to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) enjoyed the leading share, totaling 10,830 units, up 3.7% year on year. New Zealand and Myanmar both remained at second and third places from June, respectively. Exports to New Zealand soared 16.5% to 9,864 units, but those to Myanmar plunged 31.2%, which was much more notable than a month earlier, to 7,878 units. Those to Kenya, the largest market in Africa, continued to decrease sharply, plummeting 33.2% to 5,058 units. Exports to Sri Lanka were even more sluggish, waning 67.9% to 2,136 units.

In the first seven months (January-July), exports of used vehicles from Japan numbered 684,359, which shrank 7.6% from July 2015.
