Myanmar's Customs Department runs test operation for the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance system (MACCS) in August.

MACCS aims to integrate platform for trade and logistics in the country, save time and costs for customs procedures and optimize tax collection. The system is based on Japan's Nippon Automated Cargo Clearance System (NACCS) with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which will provide US$40 million for the entire project.

In the first phase, MACCS will be ready to start before the end of 2016 (in the first week of November) in the Yangong area including sea ports, airports and the Thilawa Special Economic Zone and extended to the border trade zones. Once commissioned, online applications will be available round-the-clock 24 hours.
