Egypt’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has recently released Decree of Minister of Trade and Industry No. 43 of 2016, regarding the amendment of the rules organizing the registration of the factories qualified to export products to Egypt. Under the revised rule, exporters of manufactured goods imported into Egypt will be required to register the factories and the company into the General Organization for Export and Import Control.

The products imported for trading into Egypt may not be released unless they are produced by the factories recorded in that register, or imported by the companies who are trademark owners, or by their registered distribution centers in that register.
The registration application must be submitted by the legal representative of the company (the trademark owner) or his authorized deputy.

This will impact 25 customs items including foodstuffs, toys, chocolate and dairy, among others.

The revised rule will go into effect on March 16, 2016.
