Following a notice by governmental organizations to carry out cleanup and standardize shipping service surcharges, 11 liner shipping companies have decreased additional charges by about 50 percent, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

In October, China's State Council ordered seven governmental organizations - including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministries of Transport (MOT) and Commerce (MOC), the General Administration of Customs (GAC) and the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) - to conduct investigations to find out whether the local export- and import-related fees are charged legitimately.

So far, the 11 carriers have taken proactive measures to regulate its maritime surcharge fees and reduced the level of surcharges.
