The Port of Osaka processed 38.88 million tons of cargo in total in the first half (January-June) of 2015, which plunged 11.4% from the corresponding six months of the previous calendar year, according to the city of Osaka’s Port and Harbor Bureau. International and domestic shipments were both sluggish, going down 6.8% to 16.99 million tons and down 14.7% to 21.88 million tons, respectively.

As for containers, Osaka exported and imported a total of 14.8 million tons, which declined 7.9%. In terms of number, the total suffered a double-digit decrease of 11.9% to total 953,889 TEUs. Exports improved 4.7% to 3.75 million tons, but imports diminished 11.7% to 10.87 million tons. On a TEU scale, outbound containers plummeted 12.1% to 432,726 TEUs, while inbound shipments were as weak, waning 11.7% to 521,163 TEUs.
