The combined volume of containerized shipments that major shipping lines moved among 13 countries and regions in Asia in July grew a steady 7.1% year on year to 1.229 million TEUs. Containers to and from Japan both increased, with the former going up 8.1% to 197,000TEUs and the latter, up 5.4% to 139,000 TEUs.

In the first seven months (January-July), container movement on the intra-Asia trade rose 2.7% from a year earlier to 8.556 million TEUs. Imports to Japan from the 12 other economies in the region decreased a minute 0.8% to 1.299 million TEUs, while exports from Japan also declined mildly, down 0.6% to 1.044 million TEUs.
