Used car exports from Japan decreased 1.9% from a year earlier to 113,339 units in June, according to a report released by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA). The total suffered a year-on-year decline for four months in a row due to considerable falls in those to Russia, Georgia and Zambia. In the first six months (January-June), however, they improved 1.2% to 635,461 units.

The iATA report, which had been compiled from trade statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), said that in June, Japan’s exports of used cars exceeded 10,000 units each to the top three destinations. The leading destination was Myanmar, but in terms of number, those to the Southeast Asian nation plunged 23.9% to 13,797 units. Ranked second were secondhand cars to New Zealand, which soared 20.7% to 11,314 units. They were followed by those to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which improved as much, surging 21.8% to 11,035 units. Kenya finished in fourth place, to which used car exports swelled 34.4% to 7,913 units. The fifth-greatest importer was Sri Lanka, exports to which jumped 113.1% to 5,591 units

The largest growth was registered exports of used motor vehicles to Singapore, which skyrocketed 206.2% to 1,179 units, said the iATA report. On the other hand, those to Russia suffered the largest decrease, plummeting 59.5% to 5,447 units. Exports to Georgia and Zambia were also weak, which diminished 46.9% to 1,950 units and 46.4% to 764 units, respectively.
