Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has proposed the central government to implement a project to build an overpass and tunnel on the trunk road leading to Cat Lai Port, in a bid to address chronic traffic congestion.

The first phase of the plan would involves the construction of an overpass in the direction of the Belt Road No. 2 and a tunnel underneath the existing roundabout at the cost of VND770 billion (US$35.29 million).

Heavy traffic jams have been chronicle on the roads leading to Cat Lai Port. The number of container trucks moving to and from the port has been surging from 12,000 trucks a day early last month to 20,000 trucks.
