Exports from Japan to China increased 0.2% from a year earlier to 1,044,332 tons in April, enjoying a year-on-year increase for the second consecutive month, according to a report on cargo movement between the two Asian economies released on June 12 by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). They were valued at \629.4 billion, swelling 2.3%. In the first four months (January-April), outbound shipments went down 1.3% in volume but up 2.8% in value.

Meanwhile, the JMC report indicated that imports from China to Japan fell 7.4% to 1,853,256 tons in April, suffering a year-on-year decline for two back-to-back months. However, they improved in terms of value, growing 2.7% to \1.192 trillion. From January to April, incoming cargo diminished 8.3% on a tonnage scale but climbed 2.8% on a yen scale.
