Container imports from the U.S. to Asia fell 5.7% from a year earlier to 505,401 TEUs in September, suffering a year-on-year decrease for the second consecutive month, according to a report unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC).
By destination, the report, which was compiled from statistical data provided by the Port Import/Export Reporting Service (PIERS) of the U.S., indicated that ex-U.S. containers destined to Southeast Asia went up 8.5% to 77,941 TEUs; to South Asia, up 26.5% to 39,474 TEUs and to Taiwan, up 0.5% to 42,040 TEUs.
On the other hand, those to China went down 15.1% to 211,037 TEUs; to Japan, down 10% to 60,606 TEUs and to South Korea, down 7.3% to 46,247 TEUs.
