The Sri Lankan government has announced a new regulation, stipulating the freight rate structure of containerized transports from and to Sri Lanka.

As per the directive, with effect from January 6, 2014, it is presently understood that all charges covering the entire cost of the carriage of goods referred to in the transport document shall be included in the all-inclusive freight specified in the Bill of Lading, German carrier Hapag-Lloyd said on its Website.

As a result, the following surcharges are affected and can no longer be charged to importers and exporters in Sri Lanka separately:

- Exports from Sri Lanka: Terminal Handling and Documentation Fee
- Imports to Sri Lanka: Terminal Handling and Equipment Maintenance Fee

Furthermore, the regulation clarifies the Import Delivery Order Fee remains collectable from the importers in Sri Lanka separately.
