The Port of Yokohama handled a total of 1,915,823 TEUs of oceangoing containerized shipments in the first nine months (January-September) of 2013, which decreased 6.3% year on year, according to a report recently compiled by the City of Yokohama’s Port and Harbor Bureau.

On a tonnage scale, they weighed 29.404 million tons, which fell 6.6%.

Meanwhile, domestic containers accounted for 227,540 TEUs, going down 8.3%, or 1.884 million tons, down 5.3%.

Consequently, overall throughput at the port amounted to 2,143,363 TEUs, down 6.5%, or 31.288 million tons, down 6.5%, remaining on the downward trend that it was on in the first eight months.

Looking at international shipments more closely, exports numbered 1,027,414 TEUs, down 6.4%, or weighed 13.05 million tons, down 10.6%, while imports totaled 888,409 TEUs, down 6.2%, or 16.353 million tons, down 3.2%.
