The Port of Busan in South Korea handled a total of 10,316,793 TEUs of containerized shipments in the first seven months (January-July) of 2013, increasing 3% year on year, according to the Busan Port Authority (BPA).
Imports accounted for 2,579,080 TEUs, going up 0.1%, and exports, 2,653,325 TEUs, up 1.9% for a total of 5,232,404 TEUs, up 1%.
Meanwhile, transshipment (T/S) cargoes rose 6.5% to 5,080,223 TEUs, but domestic shipments fell 6.4% to 4,167 TEUs.
Containers to and from Japan amounted to 1.604 million TEUs, swelling 6.1%, of which exports and imports totaled 813,100 TEUs, up 2.6%, and T/S cargoes, 790,000 TEUs, up 9.9%.
By port, container throughput went up 6% to 152,000 TEUs to and from Tokyo, down 3.3% to 145,000 TEUs to and from Osaka, down 5.6% to 134,000 to and from Hakata and up 8.2% to 112,000 TEUs to and from Yokohama.
Shipments to and from ports in China grew 6.2% to 2.52 million TEUs in total.
