Total container throughput at 93 Japanese ports designated by the Port Transport Business Act amounted to 1,442 million TEUs in June, representing a slight increase of 0.5% over the same month last year, according to statistics by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Containerized exports numbered 719,000 TEUs (loaded 474,000 TEUs and empties 245,000 TEUs) while containerized imports stood at 722,000 TEUs (loaded 647,000 TEUs and empties 76,000 TEUs).

Japan's container traffic has been making a gradual growth, achieving year-on-year increases of 0.1% at 1.527 million in March, 2.9% at 1.534 million TEUs in April and 0.7% at 1.496 million TEUs in May.
