Member carriers of the Yellow Sea Liners Committee (YSLC) transported a total of 300,000 TEUs of containerized shipments from South Korea to China in the first quarter (January-March) of 2013, soaring 27% year on year. On the other hand, containers from China to South Korea diminished 4.8% to 333,000 TEUs.

On the trade from South Korea to China, an increase was only registered for project-related spot cargoes, according to the YSLC, an organization of shipping companies catering to the trade between the nations.

However, leading commodities, which are chemical products, home appliances and general cargoes, were so sluggish that they did not contribute to improving freight rates.

In contrast, freight rates for services from China to South Korea rose minutely.
