Ports in China handled a total of 43,640,700 TEUs of containerized shipments in the first quarter (January-March) of 2013, increasing 8.2% from a year earlier, according to a report recently compiled by the country’s Ministry of Transport.
Coastal ports were responsible for 38,559,800 TEUs, going up 8.1%, and inland river ports, 4,480,900 TEUs, up 9.3%.
By port, Shanghai was the leading container port in the nation, processing 7,807,000 TEUs, growing 3.6%.
Shenzhen came in second place, to and from which 5,306,000 TEUs were moved, rising 4%.
Shenzhen was followed by Ningbo/Zoushan, which handled 4,119,000 TEUs, improving 4%.
Fourth place was taken by Qingdao, where container lifting was brisk, surging 11.4% to 3,915,300 TEUs.
On the other hand, Guangzhou, which came in fifth, suffered a decline of 2 percent to 3,210,300 TEUs.
